Queen of Vintage Vol.2 by Rin Tanaka, 160 pages, Cycleman Books, 2011.
After the release of the first volume King of Vintage dedicated to vintage clothing, published on the occasion of the Kulture Recycle Inspiration event of 2011 in Los Angeles, Rin Tanaka dedicated his second volume Queen of Vintage to Kathleen Schaaf, owner of the Meow vintage clothing store in Long Beach, California. Schaaf has been a professional reseller of vintage clothes for over 30 years, so much so that it is considered one of the best collectors in the world: it boasts a collection of more than 500 vintage menswear and women's items ranging from the 1920s to the 1960s.
Born in Japan in 1970, Rin Tanaka is a Japanese photographer-journalist, writer and historian of vintage American fashion. After working for a Tokyo advertising agency, he moved to San Clemente in California to study vintage American fashion and his street culture. He has written over twenty books on the history of vintage men's fashion throughout the United States for over 15 years. His books have been published both by his publisher and by others. Since 2010, every second weekend of February, Rin Tanaka presents the international vintage fashion event Kulture Recycle Inspiration in Los Angeles.
