"Merci beaucoup" means "Thank you very much" in French. The sense of gratitude already stated in its name is what the Japanese brand mercibeaucoup wants to instill and inspire its young audience. "It's about being grateful for everything we have, and remembering to be so every day," said Eri Utsugi, founder and designer of mercibeacoup,. Born in 2006 in Tokyo, the brand is part of Issey Miyake's large A-Net fashion group. Utsugi's collections are bizarre, bold and charming and graceful at the same time. They are playful and somewhat naive, streetwear but original. They recall the most curious and amusing aspects of a certain Japanese fashion but proposed in a more mature or even indie style. Many models refer to the clothes of Japanese construction workers, which Utsugi transforms into design and comfort, mixing fantasy to reality, different styles and materials, traditional and technological. Some garments are inspired by Japanese anime and manga, show off extravagant and multicolored patterns, ending up exalting multiple influences of contemporary pop culture.
